I am a mechanical Engineering graduate currently completed Training in Airside Operations at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. My duties and responsibilities during apprenticeship are as follows Apron (control) management dept. Carrying out aircraft turnaround audits. Report any safety discrepancies and ensure proper corrective action is taken. RT surveillance & RT Communication.  Policing the airside driving. Escort stakeholders who require access to airside locations, using local knowledge of the airfield, assist with ongoing works & projects Provided training to junior team members. Monitor the airfield and ensure that all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with established procedures and regulations. Coordinate with airport personnel, including AOCC, ARFF, air traffic control, airlines, ground handling agents, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations. Conduct regular inspections of the airfield, including runways, taxiways, aprons, and other critical areas to ensure they are maintained to the highest standards. Respond to incidents and emergencies on the airfield, and take appropriate action to mitigate any potential safety risks. Liaise with the local authorities, including the police and fire service, to ensure that their requirements are met in the event of an incident. Maintain accurate records of all airfield activities, including incident reports, equipment inspections, and maintenance records. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and standards, including those set by the Civil Aviation Authority and the International Civil Aviation Organization. Airside vehicle management dept. Inspecting vehicles, & equipment used in airside. Document verification. Conducted interactive training sessions for airside driving permit candidates, introducing scenario-based exercises that enhanced understanding of safety regulations; positive feedback received from 90% of participants, indicating high engagement levels. Wild life hazard management dept. Monitoring birds to ensure we are aware of possible nesting sites in the locality & various water and food sources and move birds that could have potential to affect the live runway. Managing wild life hazard management team Airside Ground Maintenance dept. Regular inspections of markings on movement area to ensure and maintain markings as per the standards. Managing grass cutting team and housekeeping team. Maintaining a bird deterrent habitat on the airfield. Maintenance of grassed areas in compliance with short & long grass policy & with respect to wildlife hazard management plans which includes high standards of husbandry on the runway, taxiways, aprons & other areas with specialized tractor towable grass toppers that keeps the grass height at 150mm-200mm height to deter birds on the airfield. When necessary and during water logging event provide specialized. equipment to sweep the runway & taxiways clean. Pesticide & Herbicide applications.  Issuance of PERCOW. Coordinate with departments within the airport to supply equipment & manpower. I have undergone several trainings including ICAO annex 14 Aerodrome Design and Operations, ICAO annex 9 Facilitation, Human Factors in Aviation, safety management systems, Radiotelephony communications etc. Moreover I Have worked as a praktikant in an Construction company.
